What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?
First thing I do in any place is look for the Expat hangouts and sit and chat. I also look for a country/area specific website to make aquaintences. Works for me and I now have parties on 4th of July, US Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday to gather all the expats I can. I get from 125 to 175 people at my events 3 times a year.
Great place for networking and making friends and getting to know your new country.

People in this town run from the very wealthy to the struggling. Most people get along except the BS Artists.
What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?
Tourism is the biggest industry and whatever feeds off of tourism.
If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.

SerenoI don't see any date on this so it may be way out of date and the situation may have changed dramatically. 4/28/2014 My wife and I started coming here over 20 years ago and it was NOT to sit around with other Expats. After many trips that lasted longer and longer as we learned we bought and built. We moved here full time over 12 years ago and it was NOT to sit with other expats thou we did meet a few, very few, good ones. Most have left. I also know who most people are here in my area and if I would not socialize with them back where I came from.... I certainly will not do it here. Sereno
