Comments Print

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

New York

What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?

University Alumni clubs, volunteer organizations like NYCares, gyms

In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.

The city is extremely diverse and accepting of differences. To see it, just ride the subway where people of all ages and nationalities are crammed together and it isn't unusual to hear 3 different languages spoken at once.

What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

Industries and jobs are too varied to sum up. As in most other places, contacts and networking are they best way to find a job.

If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.

I would recommend doing some research beforehand. One of the best things about New York is that each neighborhood is unique and has advantages that will make big differences in the lives of certain people, but may not matter to others. Also, it's very expensive to move.
