Portsmouth
What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?
Rotary for men, Cotary for women (I think). There is also the Portsmouth Little Theater and the university brings in shows and activities. Golfing is a big thing in this town.
In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.
However, the town is divided into sections of lower income and higher income. Their is a section of the town called the Ville, which is low-income housing and is considered to be unsafe. I feel that the people of this town are not accepting of differences. Their is a lot of racial tension in this town.
What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?
There is a steel plant. There was also a shoe lace plant (not sure if it still exists). There is also the university (Shawnee State University). There is not a lot of career opportunities that exist in this town.
If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.
It's a nice place to raise a family, but there isn't much to do as compared to larger cities. There really isn't much shopping. There are more opportunities for economic growth outside of this town.
