Esquipulas
How long have you lived there?
8 years
What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?
Esquipulas is a small, friendly, laid back city. Most people will say "Hi" to you on the street. There are only 5 expats here, and we don`t have a club. But, we do help each other when asked. It's a fairly safe place, unlike the Capitol. You can walk down the street at 2AM in the morning without fearing for your life.
In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.
Esquipulas is the center of faith in Central America, but it does not dominate every day living. The economy of the town is based on religon (Catholic). The economy is tied to tourisum and religon.

Tourisum is the main industry, but there are other jobs to be had,if you have a working background.

glennwdthere are 4 Esquipulas in Guatemala. Which one are you reporting on? Thanks
guestI have visited Esquipulas three times while traveling between Antigua and San Marcos in Honduras. On the surface it seems like a charmed place with the basilica etc. But at night it is like the wild west, there are no police and young people are driving motorcycles and ATV's recklessly (with extremely loud exhaust sytems). What a shame!
