Expat Advice: Living in Calgary, Canada

Comments Print

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Calgary

How long have you lived there?

6 months

What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?

Really haven't found any.

In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.

They might be accepting but there is not a lot of cultural diversity here. Not many people of color or places to go where you can enjoy something other than dance or country music.

What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

Jobs aplenty. Gas and oil are big here. Look in the aper and I am sure you will find a job.

If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.

Think twice. Not what you expect it to be. More laid back and very expansive and expensive. We may speak English, but Canadians and Americians are very different. Also, the weather here is very dreary and cold. Which is to be expected.
