Expat Advice: Living in Bernardsville, United States
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
Bernardsville
What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?
Most people are fairly private. I play a lot of golf, and many people generally seem to interact with their neighbors and members of their church. Any school and extra-curricular activities are recommended. Join the Bernardsville Pool... it's public and a lot of people use it.
In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.
This is not a diverse town. There are South Americans here, but it is almost entirely a white community. People seem to be accepting of differences, but I don't think diversity is tested very often.
What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?
Telecommunications and pharmaceuticals are most prevalent. The train provides access to NYC, which opens up just about any industry you can think of. Many people live here and work in NYC. People find jobs by networking more than anything else. Another good reason to be involved with the community in some way.
If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.
High taxes, but you'll love it if you can afford it. As private as the town is, I definitely get a sense of community in Bernardsville. If you like country living it's for you... excitement and nightlife, well you might be out of luck.
Moving to United States soon?
