Expat Advice: Relationships in Dortmund, Germany

If you are married or in a relationship with a person of another nationality, how has this experience enriched you as a person. What kind of challenges do you face?

I guess I have a different stance here: I came over to Germany knowing the language and culture, I came over to experience it. I have only German friends and speak only German with my current boyfriend. My worry is that he (and most Germans) won't be able to come home with me when I go visit for Christmas. Kind of that I have to give up my America completely. And I can't ask any normal American to lead this border-crossing life either (language, again!). Any single 20-something ex-pats out there?
