Expat Advice: Relationships in London, UK
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
London
What is your current status? Are you single, dating, in a long-term relationship, married or divorced?
I am partnered and part of a bi-national lesbian couple.
What is it like in your country of residence for someone with your relationship status (married/divorced/dating)? If you're single, how do you meet other people? Do English-speaking people tend to gravitate to certain parts of your city?
Luckily I am partnered with a Brit, and this has helped smooth the way at times for me. However, together, we are trying to find other educated, professionals who are lesbian or gay, primarily couples. This means we network through friends of friends who are American, and those who are British. And generally we find ourselves in a rather international crowd.
If you do not have children, do you generally spend your social time with other expat couples? If not, what else do you like to do as a couple?
Sometimes, depends on who we like and enoy. Because we're bi-national I think we tend not to "clump" in one group or another.
If you are married or in a relationship with a person of another nationality, how has this experience enriched you as a person. What kind of challenges do you face?
Of course it has enriched me. Sometimes there are language/expression challenges, sometimes different expectations or comfort levels around when to be assertive or confrontational, as opposed to not.
