Expat Advice: Relationships in Hurghada, Egypt

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Hurghada

What is your current status? Are you single, dating, in a long-term relationship, married or divorced?

I am married (6 months now) to a wonderful Egyptian man whom I met while on holiday in Hurghada, Egypt. What it's like to be married to a person who has NEVER been outside of Egypt, is very poor, and believes that all Westerners have loads of money has proved challenging, but we do love each other and work hard at understanding. Oh, did I mention that we are currently geographically separated? Yes, that is another story and EXTREME hardship.

If you are married or in a relationship with a person of another nationality, how has this experience enriched you as a person. What kind of challenges do you face?

Money, Economics, Language, Family, Relationships, Money -- Yes, I said money twice!

What would be the best advice you could give someone with your relationship status that lives in your country of residence? Any other thoughts?

Be very careful and make absolutely sure that your charming (and they are VERY charming) Egyptian is honestly and fully in love with you. Do not give in every time he asks for something even though you want to. Be prepared to have the guilt card played on you every step of the way when you say NO about sending money.
