Parent's Review of Australian International School Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Australian International School Malaysia
In what town or city is this school located?
Kuala Lumpur
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
Australian Curriculum with a strong International Perspective
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Pre-K to Year12/13
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
There is a regular, safe and compatable bus service to most expat areas of Kuala Lumpur. Driving is a little hassle as it is about 30 minutes from the CBD of Kuala Lumpur.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Great learning and teaching facilities. Very well equipped libraries. Good provisions for Performing Arts and the Visual Arts Department. Could work on Language learning resources though.
It is pretty of being an Aussie to love sport! This is so visible in the broad range of extra curricular activities the school offers. It is compulsory that students take part in three different activities per-term and for three afternoons each week. Our kids are spoilt for choice. Many inter-school sporting events, debates, musical and drama productions (no less than three a year). Impressive for a small school. The teachers all are part of the ECA programme and what is on offer reflects their interest.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The School goes to great lengths to ensure correct year level placement, small class sizes ensure that the teacher is able to support each student and family during the transition period. The School is noted for its ability to make adjustments - either excelleration or remedial support for eaqch student. You pretty much get an individualised programme of study. Classroom teachers and subject specialists are well supported by many teaching assistants.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Good. Many parent coffee mornings, international days, music groups, drama productions, canteen. A strong parent body and many are committed-having to drive an hour to and from the School!
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
If you want an international education, aussie style, which places an emphasis on academics AS WELL AS life outside the classroom, choose this school. Academics do play a significant role but the school is just as committed to the pastoral care and growth of each student. An Australian education is one which emphasizes 'learning to learn', hands on approaches, encourages criticism from an international perspective.

guestHi, can you please tell me the cost of the Australian International school? I have 3 triplet girls soon to be in pre-school and am considering relocating to KL. I have another job in the UAE which, unlike the Malaysian one offers a schooling allowance.
