Parent's Review of Hong Kong International School in Hong Kong
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Hong Kong International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Hong Kong
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International
What grade levels are represented at this school?
R1 to High School
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
School bus, the buses are nice and all have a "bus mother"
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The school facilities are very nice, there are two campus one in Repulse Bay that houses Lower and Upper Primary and the other in Tai Tam with Middle School and High School.
They have great installations on both locations and have access to a very rare commodity in this town: lots of space.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The school is truly international but based on an American style education, repatriation should be quite easy -- especially to American System Schools.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There is a very active PFO, we have a lot of family activities and sports.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Sign up as soon as posible, the waiting list can be very long and it may take time. If your child comes or will follow a different curriculum, you may consider other schools in town: English Schools Fundation, French International School, German Swiss International School, etc. The school has some religious education and a Lutheran Chapel in-site, if your religious background is different do not worry too much, they are quite open, inclusive and respecfull to different faits.

guestI am a school teacher in India. i want my children to have an exchange program with your school children. How should I go about it?
guestI would also add that the quality of the teachers are fine but the administration is somewhat mercenary and lacking in empathy. If your child has the slightest wobble or issue outside of norm, the school will offer no support or counseling despite having several counselors on staff. They simply can't be bothered and if you don't like it, there is a wait list for your child's place. Equal or better education is available elsewhere at much less cost. Don't assume that HKIS is the best just because it is one of the most expensive. Check other schools as well.
