American

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Parents provide transportation.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

My child's classroom had everything needed for a kindergarden: tables & chairs, classroom play area, storytime area, and its own toilet and sink area. The school has its own library and an amazing outdoor playground. The kids went on several field trips--to potato dig, to a neighborhood restuarant, to name two.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

My child loved the school and teachers but when we moved to Wisconsin for his first grade year, I found that he was quite far behind his new classmates academically: they were reading and writing while my son had only minimal skills. It was a blow to his confidence and we had to make a big effort to help him catch up. He also had to relearn correct letter formation as they allow their students to write letters any way they want to at ASIJNK.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are some events that parents can attend throughout the year, as well as being able to participate in the class (helping up to twice a week for 1/2 hour). There is also a fall fund raiser run by parents.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

It's a wonderfully fun envirionment, but pay close attention to the academic progress of your child to make sure he/she will be able to transition to a new school smoothly.
