What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Jakarta International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Jakarta
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
International
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Preschool-grade 12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Bus
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilties are generally very good. Lots of extra-curricular activities starting with grade 1, mostly sports.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
They just let the kids slide on turning in homework figuring that they were adjusting. This set up bad habits down the road.
There are programs for repatriation that are after school and optional.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Parent teacher organizations involve very few teachers, just parents and a few administrators. The teachers are supposed to start participating at the elementary level I understand.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Check out all the schools. JIS is not an American school and many students are enrolled in the IB program and that is a main focus. Many activities in middle school are very touchy-feely so consider whether this suits your child.
