What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

International School of Moscow

In what town or city is this school located?

Moscow

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International with British Curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre-school to Year 8

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

School bus (pick up from kerbside next to apartment building) or private car

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Modern, spacious, clean - where specialist facilities are not available, good use is made of local private and municipal amenities.

Within the school day: Music, sport, choir, drama, dance

After school activities (free if within the premises): Drama, Art, Bowling, Swimming, Football, Martial arts, origami (dpendent on teachers' skills)

The school excels in music and drama. The quality of the class assemblies are second to none and teachers clearly work in partnership to produce them. Children are encouraged to create and deliver their own work.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The school identified pen pals for our children from the classes they would be joining.

Transition has been easy. The school have a rota for lunchtime duty which helped both of ours feel part of the school.

I don't know what else the school has done specifically, but clearly whatever they have done has been successful.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a committee of parent representatives from each class and a link teacher, who arranges meetings and receives feedback.

New parents are made to feel welcome, including coffee mornings to meet other parents and teachers during the first week.

Regular socialising is focussed around the school drop off, which is difficult for school bus users.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

If you can, definitely visit in person the term before you are due to arrive and take up the opportunity of the orientation day.

If your child is very keen on a particular sport, you need to explore the availability of this within school - however there are very active weekend sports activities and training within Moscow eg football & ice hockey.

I’m very grateful to BISM that my children did well in their studies here and I can be confident that they had received sufficient knowledge and experiences to continue it when we return to the Czech Republic

What we have appreciated most at BIS #1 is the warm and friendly atmosphere, the friendly pupils and teachers and the open relationship between teachers and pupils and parents. Its a pleasure to join the school with a positive way of doing.

Our daughter is now in Year 9. When anyone asks her what are her favorite things about studying at BIS, she can never really pick out what they are because the simple fact is, she loves her school, she loves all of the subjects she studies at school. BISM is the school that can help develop our daughter into become a diverse, adaptable, caring, independent and well balanced individual.
