Parent's Review of College du Leman in Geneva

Comments Print

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

College du Leman

In what town or city is this school located?

Geneva

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K-12, IB, French Bac, Swiss Matura

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most children are day pupils who get to the school either by private transport or by transport provided by the school. (Not recommended).

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Although the facilities are good, and the activities offered are, at least on paper, vast and interesting. The school itself has a limited enthusiasm for extra-mural activities, there is no culture of sports amongst the children which proved frustrating for my son who loves the outdoors. To make matters worse, the staff seem disinterested.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

My son found the transition to be relatively easy, he adjusted well to the international environment and made friends very quickly. It should be said that amongst the parents the school has a reputation for being extremely disorganised which makes the administrative side of things a nightmare.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are many opportunities throughout the year to meet with the staff at the school. Through my own experience my sons teachers were always very accommodating and gave a lot of information, and advice, on our sons progress.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

What makes this school are it's pupils, who learn in what can be a very frustrating and (I am sorry to say it) badly managed school. (Don't even start on the boarding school side). Aside from excellent teachers, and a rich diversity of cultures if I had to criticise it would be that this school lacks the feel of an educational institution. Whilst we will leave our son there as he is happy with the friends he has made and we don't want him to have to adapt to a new environment, if you are searching for a an international school for your child or children, there are better options elsewhere.
