Parent's Review of Gems Bolitho School in Penzance

Comments Print

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Gems Bolitho School

In what town or city is this school located?

Penzance

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British

What grade levels are represented at this school?

3-18

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

walk minibus train or own transport

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Ok - nothing to write home about, but adequate. No pool or gym or main hall. Some extra curricular activities, but not much. School uses the excuse that the minibuses must leave at end of the day so this would be unfair for those who had to leave then. Reality is staff don't want an extended day.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Nothing.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Used to be really good, but a lot of parents have left now that Gems has taken over, and school does not have the same atmosphere.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

It is slowly winding down. Reception and leadership in early years is non-existent. 6th form is now a rump. Truro is by far a better option.
