Parent's Review of Utama International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Utama International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Kuala Lumpur

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Local & British

What grade levels are represented at this school?

primary and secondary

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

all means

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

LACKING - especially modern teaching aids like what modern schools should have now. Although there's a small pool and a field - they are not well-maintained....very dirty, uneven. Other co-curricular activities almost non-existent. PE time is for students to just laze around the school compound.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Nothing much. British curriculum but not really most of the time. Almost 100 percent local teachers who cannot converse well in English. Many times my child complains about the poor pronunciation of the teachers. Teaching is also not student-centred, very traditional style of learning for students.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Non-existent. Only certain influential parents who butter teachers & staff got to be heard. Ordinary parents......dream on.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Think hard. Somehow there are not many good international schools in Kuala Lumpur; if you can, give this school a miss.
