Oeiras International School

In what town or city is this school located?

International Baccalaureate World School

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Middle Years programme (Y6 to Y11) and Diploma Porgramme (Y12 and Y13)

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The school is located in a temporary site. It will move to permanent facilities next September 1, at a beautiful campus (3.5 acres). An estate with 2 main buildings, 2 sports fields, and immense gardens. There are extra-curricular activities in Arts (Musical instruments, Theater, Singing, Painting) and Sports (Rugby, Surf, Judo and Taekwondo). Also available are very comprehensive Community & Service activities.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

This school has very small class sizes (max 15 students per class) and very dedicated teachers providing individual care and attention to every child. There is also a group of psychologists. And older students will help younger students catch up on all subjects. The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme also makes adaptation to a new school easier.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a very active "Parents Club", organising events, meetings, lunches and any parent can be a volunteer at the school, helping out at specific activities, according to one's availability and capabilities.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I would highly recommend this school.

This could only have been written by the management who are struggling to fill the school. Would you want teachers in 11th/12th Grades who have never taught that subject before? Might be good in fifteen years time, but not a real choice for anyone who has serious academic achievement aims for their children.

My son is a special needs student- Every School in Cascais rejected him on the basis of a report made by an educational psychologist that clearly outlined his autistic profile and serious language problems. The Christian school ICSC accepted him and so did OIS...There is absolutely no special needs infrastructure in OIS. My son is miserable.I am returning to Switzerland.
