Parent's Review of Yew Chung International School in Hong Kong
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Yew Chung International School
In what town or city is this school located?
Hong Kong
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
British
What grade levels are represented at this school?
lower nursery-IB
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Bus, train, car
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Facilities are very poor in the school. Buildings are old and poorly maintained. The kindergarten has little/no outdoor areas for play time. The high school has a small pool but no other sports areas.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
Teachers are very open and welcoming. The school is majority local children so a bi-lingual programme is maintained in the kindergarten to help children settle. This is phased out in 4s and year 1. Although they follow the British system most children are Cantonese so do not need repatriation.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
There are no PTAs. Although individual class teachers do welcome parent involvement.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
It is a good school for local children to learn English, but I would not recommend it for expats seeking a quality British education for your child.

guestI agree with this report. Very poor for expat children especially in high school. The school rule is supposed to be that students speak English but this is not enforced in secondary outside of the class and sometimes not in the class.
