Parent's Review of EIMLV in Montry
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
EIMLV
In what town or city is this school located?
Montry
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
French
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Cp-CM2
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
car
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Awful. The building (pre-fab) is more than 15 years old and while there's lots of talk of a new school being built (has been for > 5 years), they are very far from moving from this 'shed'.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
Nothing formal exists.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
Lots of parent organizations. The school is run by parents which is the BIG problem. The board is made up of parents woth random skills when it should actually be made up of people who are trained to handle accounting, contract, HR, etc. More than 17 employees are managed by this board.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
DON'T DO IT. You don't want to regret it like we did...

guestThis is the opinion of one parent, but not representative of the majority. There are certainly things that could be improved at this school and need working on, but the teachers and support staff are exceedingly good and most children who go to this school are very happy there. The fact that it is run by parents is the way the school was set up, as an "association". Many parents put all of their children through this school and are very happy with it. If you expect a very international school, with many subjects taught in English, you will be disappointed. If you want a school that offers more English than a local public school, with English taught at a level adapted to that of your child (anglophones and francophones are separated), EIMLV certainly offers that. If you are considering enrolling your child at this school, ask to speak to other parents before making your mind up, because opinions vary greatly!
guestWe believed all the rhetoric, too. Great disappointment.
guestSeems to be a very partial report..... True that some parents left the school this year (may be this report comes from one of them :-)) after putting a big mess through the administration board. Hopefully they resign in january and a new bureau was elected which did a great job to restore the values and strengths of this unique school especially dialog between parents and teachers. Other things on this school have to be considered : - this is a school where yours kids will be very happy and learn and perfom either in French or English. - English dpt is growing with a head of English dpt The only problem is to book a place (for the future school years) as the school reaches every year its capacity and does not want to extend their class size (max 22 pupils and class per level).
guestInteresting comments. The above article also forgot to mention the very high number of parents taking their children out of the school every year. The school is not at maximum capacity and has not been for many years. Do ask questions. Ask many of them. The only way to be as sure as you can is to ask questions and to ask different people. The difficult thing though will be to find balanced answers. The parents who are not happy are gone! Try to find them too as there are many... and good luck with your decision Choosing the right school for your child is a difficult task. Everyone wants the best for their child. Good luck!
