What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

overseas family school

In what town or city is this school located?

Singapore

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

international & IB cursus

What grade levels are represented at this school?

pre-k to gr 12 followed by Overseas family College

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most kids seem to take the bus or get there by car.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Facilities are poor. Too many students on too little space. Extra curricular activities are mostly focused on sports. There is no language clubs or art club for instance ...

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

No special programs to prepare for repatriation. We were lloking for an accredited school with an IB cursus at walking distance offering languages. This is what we found at the time.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

No PTA though there is a prents association. Once a year a "global picnic" is organized and once a term there are some coffees mornings.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

If you are looking for a strong English cursus, go to another school. If your child is shy or a bit unsecure, go to another school: at lunch time there are all the primary students ( gr 1 to gr 5. roughly 10 classes for each..20 kids per class- It is noisy and crowded) plus the middle school or high school students who have PE on the same space...

Parents are strongly encouraged to get involved! There may not be an English PTA per se, but this school truly does a great job of trying to integrate not just the students of all differing cultures, but their families. There are MANY activities for families to join/go to, so I'm not sure if this person just wasn't paying attention or just didn't want to get involved, but speaking from the perspective of two children who absolutely loved the school (one who, now 12 years later is contemplating returning there to teach), we were very pleased with the whole experience.
