Parent's Review of Fairview International School Johor Bahru in Johor Bahru
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
Fairview International School Johor Bahru
In what town or city is this school located?
Johor Bahru
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
IB incorporating IGCSE
What grade levels are represented at this school?
Grade 1 to Grade 10/11
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Parent's car
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
The Facilities are minimal, well they do not really have a field or swimming pool, and not much of sports equipments. The space is very limited. classrooms are limited. Teachers are always not permanent. Young inexperienced teacher are placed in classes. Foreign teachers from Philippine are employed. I do not believe that these foreign teacher are efficient enough to teach international program, such as IB or the IGCSE.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
School does not help much. They expect alot from the parents. We do pay them fees but they are always asking for this and that. For example, for the recent Charity Run, they school is expecting the parents to donate tents, drink and food for that event. They do not even have St. John's or the Red Crescent for standby positions, in case there is an emergency for medical need. the management is NOT efficient at all. They can not manage anything well. Even the recent Cultural Day event was a total chaos. Parents not being briefed, children running around, not itenary given. Do NOT go to Fairview. They will try to convince new parents, by showing their new building proposal and IB Diploma. They are not efficient at all.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
In Fairview, there is no parent-teacher meeting, unless you have asked for an appointment with them. That too will NOT be entertained. I still have not met the teacher that I have asked to meet, they just refuse to meet me because I have really important to say about their efficiency. OLh yeas, they will call the parents for a Coffee Talk and pretend to listen to you and then just ignore you.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Do not be convinced with their first impressions. That's all they have. They are not efficient and will ignore you later when you want to talk to them about a concern.

guestInternational schools are about international mindedness, not about how many caucasian teachers are in service. International-mindedness is reached through the IB Learner Profile that children in this school, and other IB world schools actively strive to reach. You need to be more open-minded to the educators of other backgrounds and nationalities. The Charity Fun Run is a student-initiated and organised event, obviously children need help from adults and contributions are welcome, not expected. Give the kids a chance instead of condemning their initiative. I believe that communication here is very open now compared to before with the introduction of coffee mornings and information sessions, perhaps your expectations need to be managed when dealing with a small school as this. Fairview Johor students have full access to the Johor Land swimming pool and football fields so your assertions are false.
guestDon't judge the school by just one parent's review. My kid goes there and I am quite happy with the school. The charity run is organized by the student's. They Srebrenica just asking for help and donation for the unfortunate children,if aanyone is not happy about helping, then they just shouldn't. They don't need to criticize them. The management is very helpful and the teachers are friendly.
guestthat how it seem to me too. my child was warned by the teacher that he should not tell the parents about anything that happen in school. Why shouldn't the child tell anything to the parents? Does not make sense to me.!!!!
guestIf there is any issue with the school that concerns you then the first course of action is to speak to their head of school about the matter. Some accusations are without basis and hold no water, it also makes no sense to throw out assertions without evidence. Children in the MYP are very happy and proud to be part of the school which is the only IB World School in JB. If the school is so horrible, I then shudder to think what other IB-accredited World Schools are like. Being reasonable is all what people ask from one another. Parents whom I've spoken to know who the reviewer is and think she is sorely misled and not open to explanation. Stop taking an offensive and adversarial stance against the school and its staff who are there to lead our children through their learning journey.
guestMy kids just started at Fairview JB and they seem to love it and actually enjoy learning. I find the teachers responsive so far. I attended the Charity Run and was impressed with how much effort the students themselves put in to organize the event and with their energy and enthusiasm. Any questions I have had have been promptly answered by the teachers and the administration staff.
guestNot a bad school, much better than the other so-called INTERNATIONAL schools in Johor. Complain if you must but do be glad that there is an international educational body that verifies their compliance to international standards. I had my son-in-law remove my grandchild from AHIS as no learning was taking place. Even the teachers there were clueless as to what was being taught. He enjoys Fairview and has been there for almost two years now. My suggestion would be for unhappy parents to remove their children from Fairview, your regrets will come when faced with the half-baked systems in the many so-called International schools in Johor.
guestThey just raised the prices and exam papers leaked .. Student caught watching porn in the computer lab ... And this year 25 teachers are leaving ... Too much drama. Many parents gave taken the kids out better look for alternatives.
