Parent's Review of Modern Montessori International Preschool in Bangkok, Thailand

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Modern Montessori International Preschool

In what town or city is this school located?

Bangkok

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Montessori

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Nursery until K3, 18 month until 6 year old

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

The school is 2 minutes walk from BTS Phra Kanong, or 5 minutes walk from BTS Ekamai. Taxis are also a good option as it is not in the busy city center. The school bus also available. There are plenty of city busses, the non AC and full AC ones, that the Japanese mums use.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

It has small pool and small in door gym. The classroom is big and full of great Montessori 'toys'/ learning aids. Lots of extracurricular activities are offered including ballet, swimming, drama, basketball, soccer, gymnastic, French, Thai and any other requests from parents.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

My daughter didn't speak a word of English last year when she started. She is not fluent now, and has started to read too. English as a second language ECA has been offered in last year to help the kids who need it, this term upon request From parents, French was offered. The school also help the bigger students to prepare for the 'bigger school' by also doing a more structured session after the Montessori circle time where kids can learn what they want on their own pace.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is PTA but the school is not very active in organizing this, so the parents have to be more pro-active. There are events every 1-2 months where parents are invited to attend and participate. These are very well organized. Parents can also do Montessori Diploma at the school along with other external participants.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I think this is an excellent school for the early years if you want to instill the love of learning in your child. Just make sure you know the theme of the month and also read up on it to keep up. My four year old came home one day and told me, "Do you know, mummy, we should not buy a car as they make black smoke and make Mother Earth sick. Also if we buy lots of toys, factories will make more, and make our earth hot and the ice will become water, and the polar bear have no place to live."
