Thankyou so much for posting this report, my family and i are looking at moving to Nassau in early 2012. We have enquired into Lyford Cay International School for my daughter who will be 5 later this year. It's very hard to get information from overseas and i'm really having to go by what others have to say. The school's website makes it look so beautiful and sound fantastic so it's good to hear someone back it up. Academically is it one of the better international schools on the island do you know? Thanks

Not sure of the date of the original report, as it does seem to be from at lesat 5 or more years ago. This school is very good at looking "wonderful" on the surface, but if you are interested in attending, don't be afraid to ask the hard questions and look carefully. We were sold on the whole IB philosophy and my child attended the school for 3 years. The IB program was a joke. Many of the teachers are NOT IB qualified, though have taken a few IB seminars. When we asked to view the curriculum, there was much beating around the bush, with the end result being not so much a curriculum as a philosophy. One new English teacher told us she had been given no curriculum to teach any of her classes, just a list of what books she couldn't teach. One year we went through 3 different math books (and two months of photocopies) until they decided which book to use. And it didn't help that the teacher quit 3 weeks before the final exams. There is an undercurrent of bullying there and the school does not seem to do much about it, despite their "no bullying" policy. Though we left the school several years ago, I have friends whose children still attend, and they say the bullying is still very much present. After too many failed promises, I took my child out of this school and enrolled in a New England prep school where my child is now thriving and an honor student. I only wish I'd done it sooner. While the younger grades seem to fare better than the older ones, there is a good pre-k and kindergarten program, but given some of the issues I've heard about from current families with children in grades 4, 5 and 6, they are feeling a bit let down and many are paying for extra tutoring just so their child can keep up with the next school they will attend. My only advice to you is to look carefully and ask the hard questions. Ask to observe the classrooms and speak with the teachers. It is a lovely campus, as there is a lot of money flowing through this community, but as for the academics, only you will know what is best for your child. March 2011

This is an excellent school. The school is growing so much academically and space is limited with a waiting list for many grades. Very exciting and challenging education with a clear emphasis on transformative experience.
