Comments Print

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Greengates

In what town or city is this school located?

Mexico City

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British IB

What grade levels are represented at this school?

k-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus, car

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Facilities are very good. Many afterschool activities including sports, music, drama, language, academic help. All are free!

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Our 3 kids had no problem coming from an American curriculum at another international post to the IB/Brit program. The curriculum is in English [with a Spanish curriculum available] so there was just the normal 'learning curve' that they have experienced at other INTL schools. I am not sure if there are any specific programs but I know kids with English-language issues get extra help/classes if needed.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a PTA organization with meetings once a month. Because I do not live very close to the school I never attend but have friends who do. There are several events during the year that are parent friendly like ' 'children's Day, International Fair, Mexican revolution day and a big Christmas festival/concert.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Be prepared that the administration at the 3 major English speaking schools in Mexico [ASF, GG, Westhill] city have very limited communication skills. I have friends who attend all 3 schools and everyone complains about it. GGates is the same. They do send out a newsletter monthly but sometimes information comes at the last minute. Not all teachers are as forthcoming with info as we have had at other international schools. All in all we are very happy at GG and the kids are learning lots. There is also no bullying which was a key reason we opted for this school.
