Try to find a place in a touristy area. It's safer that way. Also consider proximity to supermarket, food stalls, restaurants and shopping. Forget about taking the bus. Taxis are very convenient.

What type of housing do you live in? Is this typical for most expats in your area?

Furnished apartment and yes

How did you choose your neighborhood and find your home or apartment?

Employer helped.

Are your housing costs higher or lower than they were in your home country? What is the average cost of housing there?

It's higher. A good furnished apartment in Georgetown would cost around RM.1500-3500 ($450 - 1100)
