What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Rotterdam

What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

Shipping is big - English is spoken almost everywhere - unemployment is low so there are a lot of jobs - just read the paper and talk to people.

What type of work do you do and how did you find your job?

Teacher - first an international school through US recruitment then a local school through contacts in the Netherlands.

How did you obtain your work permit? What advice would you have for others about work permits?

Get the job first and they will help you get the permit.

Have you taken language and cross-cultural training courses to prepare for your assignment? If so, how have they helped you on the job?

yes and yes

What advice would you offer others about finding jobs and working abroad?

Make sure you are ok with adversity, not understanding what's being said around you, willing to report to the police on short notice, never understanding what your mail says, and getting phone calls from your loving family in the middle of the night because they got the time difference wrong.
