Geneva English Drama Society (GEDS) was formed in 1933 in Geneva by a group of anglophones and has been going strong ever since providing amateur theatre to Geneva and surrounding region for the English speaking public. Play readings every two weeks with three main productions each season. Next production in Coppet - November 6th to 10th - Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward a hilarious comedy. What is unique about your organization?
We are the only English speaking amateur theatre group in this area (Geneva and surrounding France), plus our "sister" group Geneva Amateur Operatic Society who looks after the music side of local English speaking amateur theatre with a Christmas panto for the children. Seventy five years since we were formed, with a fast turnover of expats in this region we still manage to provide first class amateur theatre.
What kind of activities does your group sponsor?
Play readings, amateur theatre covering backstage work, workshops for backstage. We have a special theatre group for adolescents - The Edge - run by a member of our Committee since several years. This group produce one or two plays per year Last season they put on Allo Allo a hilarious comedy based on the BBC series for two nights. It was a huge success.
How often does your group meet?
Fortightly play readings for everyone (you do not have to be a member) and three theatre productions per season.
Is there a membership fee?
CHF 40 for adults (30 for over 60's) CHF 10 for under 18 and unemployed

We provide for the English speaking community terefore all nationalities are welome and involved. With the numerous international orgnaisations and multinationals based here in Geneva, English is widely spoken despite this being a French speaking area. Anyone with a knowledge of English - even a weak knowledge - would be interested in our activities - you don't have to be fluent to enjoy the activites.
