What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Lima

Describe how you "dreamed" expat life would be before you moved overseas. Please provide as much detail as possible.

Luxurious, would have enough money to cover all expenses, would be able to travel extensively, have house help, would be able to meet new people and see new things

How has your expat experience met the expectations you dreamed about before you moved abroad?

I've been here for 4+ years. I've been able to travel extensively, but not stay as long in the various places as I have wanted. I have house help now once a week. It is interesting to meet new people and see new things, but it doesn't happen as often as I would like.

How has your expat experience NOT met the expectations you dreamed about before you moved abroad?

It is not luxurious, I'm always wondering when next month's money is coming or from where it will be coming. It is very expensive to be here. Money disappears quickly. Prices for gringos are higher than prices for Peruvians. Gringos are ripped off everywhere. I've been forcibly robbed three times. I've been in 4 taxi cab accidents. I was hit by a van while riding my bike and suffered a full year of dealing with the need to get good medical care and it was a terrible experience that I would not wish on anyone. I've been the victim of extortion several times. It's not lovely having to pay police officers and judges.
