Describe how you "dreamed" expat life would be before you moved overseas. Please provide as much detail as possible.
Came hoping for the best and expecting the worst. This attitude has served me well before. Some of our colleagues are distressed by the accommodation and local attitudes. Surely people do some research (and expectation management) before they hop a plane for a random country?
How has your expat experience met the expectations you dreamed about before you moved abroad?
A balance between as-bad-as-expected and better-than-I-thought.
The school we're at has no resources. The local supermarket has enough to live on. The water and power turns off occasionally. The cost of living isn't too high. The tap water is undrinkable and sometimes brown. The locals are friendly. The post system is difficult to decipher. The salary is worth it!
How has your expat experience NOT met the expectations you dreamed about before you moved abroad?
I moved overseas for adventure and I found adventure.
