An Expat Parent Talks about Raising Kids in London, UK
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
London
How is being a parent in your destination country different than in your home country?
Very independent parenting, without much family support network. However, a key strength in UK is the high level of involvement from the national health service, where infants get regular visits from a home visitor, reminders for vaccinations. A weak point is that there is no ready access to a paedetrician. Every service or check up is required to go through a nurse / GP first, before you get a referral to a Paed.
What are the strengths of your home culture's parenting style? What are the weaknesses?
High family and extended family involvement. Domestic help is readily accessible and affordable.
