It's Important to Learn the Language

Language is a huge deal. Even being familiar with the language of the country in which I am currently living, I still have issues where not knowing the exact term for something makes things complicated. Going to the grocery store, pharmacy, hardware store, getting something repaired- all of those things usually require some sort of communication beyond just basic terminology. Most people are somewhat familiar with English, and will gladly show it off, but when it comes to specific needs, it is so much better to know the local language just to be able to function as a part of society. Even knowing a little of the language shows you're putting forth an effort and people take kindly to that. Can you imagine someone moving to the U.S. and not knowing a word of English, and not even attempting to learn it? They would find it very difficult.
