ATM ~ Cajero Automatic: using your ATM card in Ecuador Tip #1

You probably know that Ecuador is more of a cash society than a credit card society. You also probably know that bills of $5O and $1OO are very difficult to cash here into small denominations and anything larger than a $2O may not be acceptable

You certainly do not want to travel with a pocket full of bills so the best thing to do is bring your ATM card. And if you can, have a second account on back up since there are daily limits.

*IMPORTANT* Be sure and notify your bank using the phone number on the reverse of the card that you will be accessing your account from another country. Using your card from a foreign location will trigger a red-flag and may block your access to your funds if they have not been notified.

Just a note ~ travelers checks are very hard to cash these days and many locations no longer accept them due to the high level of fraud and counterfeit checks being passed.
