Do not change dollars into Cordobas when coming into Nicaragua. Bring your dollars in small denominations to pay for taxi or other small purchases. You can use it and get change back at the running rate of 24 pesos. Make sure that the bills are perfect or they won't take them. Leave your large amount of money in your checking account and use your ATM card to withdraw as needed. Again, withdraw it in dollars. (I used the ATM machine inside the bank for more security) Do not carry large amount of money unless you want to call attention to yourself.
