1. Join every expat forum - especially this one ;-)
2. Look around the forums and then ask questions
3. Give details about your family eg children, work,
4. Try and work out what budget you have
5. If you have a job already lined up, the area will be easier to find to live in. Ask questions about areas, schools, budgets, style of houses.
6. Be prepared to live without your belongings or send them early. We were without ours for 13 weeks - wish we had sent our stuff earlier and just borrowed from friends and family before we left.
7. Get medicals up to date and any scripts filled before you come
8. Get dental check ups and bring records if possible
9. If you have young children, it will be easy to meet people at school events, if you don't, join up with expat people on forums or join a sporting group
10. Australia is $$$ - be prepared
