Money in Argentina

Argentina is a cash society. Almost everything functions on cash. Being from the U.S., where I almost never carry cash, this was a difficult adjustment. Taxi drivers, buses, and many other business will ask you to give them "sencillo", meaning small change. In other words, if your check is only 10 pesos and you give them a 50 or a 100, they will likely ask for a smaller bill. For the buses, you have to have coins. They don't even accept bills. This was especially difficult for me because upon arrival to Argentina, I didn't have any cash. I ended up having to eat at McDonald's because it was one of the only places that accepted credit cards!
