Watch out for this old trick in San Jose Costa Rica

View/Add Comments (0 Comments) |

A favorite trick for thieves near the San Jose airport is to look for obvious tourist rental cars heading to town. Anywhere that traffic slows or there is a stop light, the thieves will position their car next to yours and someone will reach out and put a hole in your rear tire with an ice pick. If this happens to you, do not pull over until you can reach a well-lit area with other people around and ask them for help, preferably a gas station. If you stop on the roadside, the thieves will stop too and offer to help you fix the tire. Then they will rob you.

I'm on my third career in life that of being voluntarily unemployed! The first two were house construction and later hi-tech as a software engineer. I was fortunate to be able to retire early in Costa Rica back in '07. With my wife and younger son we bought land and built a dream house with that million-dollar view you hear so much about. We spend time raising coffee, bananas, and fruit trees. My wife is an accomplished artist and has discovered new media to express herself here including beautiful ceramic mosaics. Pura vida! P.S. Now, in 2021, planning our next move ... to México!
