How should you tip in India?

Americans tends to tip everywhere with the standard 15% just like back in the States. In India, however, they are leaving too much money on the table when tip is already included in the bill. How do you know? Well, check your bill, it will list all the items you ate or drank with their price, any tax associated (service TAX, vat, etc..), and this is important, “Service Tax”, that is your tip, my friend. So why pay more? An Indian friend explained this to me awhile back. So act like the locals. If the service Tax is not included in the bill, then you may want to leave a tip only if you have enjoyed the service. Typically on small restaurants, or local cafe, no tip is expected. In nicer places, on a 700 Rs meal, 50 Rs is very acceptable. Please do not ask the server, how much tip you should give, he will request 20% of your final bill.
