Permission-To-Remain:-Do-Your-Homework!

If you are making the move to Ireland as a retiree or person of independent means and you are not coming from an EU country, but from the US or Canada, there is much you need to know. Do your research! You will not get cut-and-dried information regarding what is required of you in order to receive permission to remain beyond 3 months (trust me, everyone I've talked to has received requests for different documentation!), but you should know the basics that are required and then add as much documentation as you can think of in order to be prepared. Basics: Documents to prove residency in your home country for the 12 months before you arrive in Ireland; FBI report; bank statements; proof of medical insurance (hospital coverage); and proof of a place to live and a bank account in Ireland. Good luck!
