Feeding Birds in the Tropics

View/Add Comments (0 Comments) |

Some of the best bird attractors in the Tropics are bananas and oranges. Most birds here do not like seeds as they do in the temperate zones. Be sure to peel the banana on one side so they smell them and the smaller birds can eat the flesh easily. Position the feeder, which can just be a board, under some foliage as the Tropics has many raptors that hunt small birds. Give the feeder some time and change the food everyday and the birds will start to come in. Keep a book on tropical birds nearby so that you can identify them.

I'm on my third career in life that of being voluntarily unemployed! The first two were house construction and later hi-tech as a software engineer. I was fortunate to be able to retire early in Costa Rica back in '07. With my wife and younger son we bought land and built a dream house with that million-dollar view you hear so much about. We spend time raising coffee, bananas, and fruit trees. My wife is an accomplished artist and has discovered new media to express herself here including beautiful ceramic mosaics. Pura vida! P.S. Now, in 2021, planning our next move ... to México!
