Unreliable realtors and rental property managers exist. This is one reason we all ask "Do you know of someone…?"; someone reliable, whose accommodations are described accurately and rated honestly. SHORT TERM STAYS: many Expat Exchange contributors have endorsed a handful of resources. Because word-of-mouth is the best way to know you have a great resource I'll rename them here:
- Portugal Portfolio, handling greater Lisbon and the Algarve; MAP (Martina Lennon Properties), focused on the greater Cascais to Lisbon area;
- FeelingLisbon Apartments, focused on Lisbon. They can arrange from a week to a year or more in the homes they own or manage.
BUYING: A real estate agent operating in Portugal must train and be certified by the Instituto da Construcao e do Imobiliario (INCI). Check the license number at the Associacão de Mediadores Imobiliários site. Select "Checking out an AMI Number". Enter the number, press "Pesiquisar" and it will be confirmed or, if no results appear, it's not an authentic license.
