Importing of Vehicles

Right now, you can import vehicles that are 6 or more years old IF the VIN number starts from 1-5 . That seems to include some BMW and Mercedes SUVs, some toyota trucks etc. But the import duties will be around 1800 bucks. I have grown tired of driving with US plates as a tourist as they seem to stop me almost daily hoping I don't have all my correct tourist papers or that I have overstayed the usual 180 day tourist span allowed.
