Marrying in Ecuador
You have come to Ecuador and not only fallen in love with the country but found the love of your life. The process is not that difficult, but you cannot just marry to get citizenship. Keep that in mind. You do have to have a residency visa so let's assume you have crossed that hurdle and we'll move on to the subject at hand -- how to ring those wedding bells. . 1. You have to have been in Ecuador for 75 consecutive days. 2. You must be interviewed separately, by the Registro Civil, and they must approve of the marriage. This can be at ANY Registro Civil. 3. There are only two places you marry; the Registo Civil in Guayaquil or Quito -- everyone must be married in a CIVIL ceremony for it to be a LEGAL MARRIAGE in Ecuador. Since there are many people who desire to marry, you should make sure to set an appointment at one of the two locations. ...and there you go! Now most folks do want a religious ceeremony as well -- because when you get married in Ecuador you marry the entire family ... so be prepared to have a wedding that includes everyone, and of course the ubiquitous fireworks. Enjoy -- and -- CONGRATULATIONS!
