Shopping-in-Iceland

The supermarket prices vary a great deal and they do not all have the same items. You need few trips to different shops to get all you need. The cheapest is Bonus- but not everything is the cheapest, sometime Kronan has cheaper options. The tidiest is Vidir, which does not tempt your kids with sweets- it has some quality items. Hagkaup is quite big , more expensive on some items, but best bet for finding what you want. Kostur sells many American products and some items here are cheaper than Bonus-dairy products. Buy your bread from a bakery or VIDIR. Fjardarkaup has some alternative products but too hard to find your way round also expensive. Samkaup us horrid and usually located in run down areas but very expensive despite being a ghetto supermarket. N1 Gas Stations are well stocked and the best for emergencies and top ups. Get an N1 card for better deals and credit, points. Hagkaup is open 24 hrs. Some N1 are too. Vidir till 11 pm. Bonus till 6.30 pm, Kronan 8 or 9 pm it depends, Fjardarkaup til 6 pm and Kostur 8 pm.
