Common-British-Phrases

Moving from America to England did not contain a huge amount of culture shock, but there are some words and phrases it might help to be familiar with so you aren't shocked or confused when you hear British people speaking. You will commonly hear cursing and swear words as they aren't as censored as Americans tend to be (especially on the "telly"). They also commonly use "piss", "nuts", and "tits" which could be looked down up on in the US. When you are saying the letter "Z", you must pronounce it "zed." One of my favorite phrases to date is "well-chuffed" which basically means content, happy, pleased, etc. The British say and spell our American word of "aluminum" as "aluminium." The extra "i" in there makes it sound funny! One last favorite phrase the British commonly use is "cheeky." They tend to use it when someone is being what Americans would refer to as mouthy, sarcastic, or trying to be funny. I'm still learning and being caught off guard with some of the things they say but loving every second of it!
