It is not difficut at all to move and live abroad. It is the mindset and offcourse there are hurdles to start with but most of these hurdles are the ones which we put in our path ourselves. Some people are shy to ask someone on the road about directions or most are too high headed and then Blame the whole country. When we move abroad we must try to help ourseleves more than we should expect from others. having a smart phone with a good internet connection is the must have thing( Viva com network is good and VIVA Free sim only plan where you pick and choose the package is very good) One can quickly translate small phrases, find directions quickly. In sofia you can technically live without even using a taxi as the public transport is very goog. Obviously you need to get the a3 format map with diff services for trams. As soon as you land in Bulgaria please open a bank account ( I had really good experience with Postbank) It costs around 2 leva( 70 pence) a month to have current account and a GBP account with a 15 pound deposit was free 2 years ago. 2nd step is to go and get a LOng term residence card from Migration office (MVR). I needed a bank card photocopy and British passport for the first registration. (For the addrss change etc you will need a notary sealed copy of property contract) That is a white card with no photo on it (You must carry a photo id with this card) As UK dosnt have national ID cards like Bulgarian do (LIchna Karta), I would highly recommend you to futher apply for a Photo ID card that costed additional 20 leva. With this card you dont have to carry your passport except for few places e.g while registering you car or a visit to notary office ( You will need your UK passport with Bulgarian Photo ID card) 3rd Step is to go nearest NAP (National revenue agency) and start paying for a minimalni osigurovki (minimum class 4 type contributions in UK) for unemployed, that will provide you with the state health cover like Bulgarians have. If you are employed then this is done by your employers. This will cover you with everything as well as emenrgencies ( The UK eu health card is for emergencies only and technically only valid for emegencies for UK residents) Its always good to have back up that costs only around 17 leva a month. You then have right to register with a GP and a GP visit only costs around 3 leva , but in case your not covered under state revenue system then a GP visit will be minimum of 25 leva but obviously then the doctor has the right to ask more if he wishes. We have to pay for the medicines unless hospitalised I have managed to do lot of stuff myself without help (obviously I asked many nice people along the way to advice me or share their thoughts-And I always remember them in my prayers). If anything I can help with please ask via my permanent no +359(0) 877876633 I want to learn Off Roading and will be very happy to go out with someone who lives in Bulgaria. I hope this is of help to all who will come to BULgaria. I have not only shared my experiences but also the facts as I usually dont give out advise If I am not sure. Kind Regards
