This was one of the most difficult things for me to get used to as an American - tipping in the UK. Restaurants and pubs are run differently in the UK than in the US. They pay their staff higher wages and also do not always have a dedicated server to your table. In pubs, you will go to the bar to order both drinks and food. Everybody thinks to move to London but where I live is a county named North Somerset. The US system is much different than the UK system of education. If your children are well into their US education, they will not assimilate well into the UK system.
