This was one of the most difficult things for me to get used to as an American - tipping in the UK. Restaurants and pubs are run differently in the UK than in the US. Charity shops are the American equivalent of thrift stores, but they are smaller and more specifically focused on a charity than Goodwill or Salvation Army. You will see at least five on a high street even in small village towns. Most are operated by volunteers so if you have extra time when you relocate, dedicate it to your community! (Continue Reading)

Electrical outlets are different from US and other EU countries so you will need a decent converter. I highly suggest just leaving your hair dryers, curling irons, etc. at home and only bringing chargers for computer, camera, etc. to use with a converter. (Continue Reading)

The British don't use napkins or paper towels like Americans do. In America, you wouldn't think of sitting down to eat or even getting a to-go meal from a take-away without receiving napkins but this is not the case in the UK so don't be surprised when you end up wiping your hands on your pants after taking a bite of your burger!
