Going Green for power.

This usually becomes a rather heated subject.

As most know, the DR is installing 2 coal powered electric generating plants at a very high cost. I'll leave it at that.

BUT... if this is true perhaps the people in charge have come to understand a few things.

State-owned Electric Utility to install solar panels on govt. buildings.

Santo Domingo.– State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) announced Monday that a program of solar energy will be implemented in all public buildings in the country, aimed at reducing the governmet's annual electricity bill by at least US$50 million.

According to El Nuevo Diario, the program also seeks to reduce the dependence on fossil generation and help mitigate the negative effects fuel production has on the environment.

The program designed by the CDEEE involves the installation of photovoltaic solar panels for electricity production for self-sufficiency of public entities. The project will meet all or part of the electricity demand of schools, hospitals, government offices and other institutions.

I'm over 95% solar for the last 5 or more years. Just about everything is on the solar system. Our Edenorte gringo smart meter had upped our bill to almost US 1,000 per month while we responded to cutting our use down. After some adjusting.... we have won. Our bill is under US $100. per month and we have not really changed that much.

Our system has paid for it's self over and over and over and thou we conserve, we and our renters have everything.

The ONLY thing that is NOT on the solar system is AC. With our rentals, we have a lot of power requirements that must be met.

We have not only met those but have extra solar energy that we use to "boil" our batteries in normal maintenance. Our back up Gen has started so few times that I have it scheduled to start once a week to maintain it.

We LOVE our solar system. We .... don't like the inflated electric bills and refused to pay them.
