Hi everybody! We are Italians and we live in Thailand.... we want relocate in DR , we are looking in Internet many forum , news , etcc.. related to this matter. The problem is (and I know that the opinion is subjective) which is the right place ? We honestly looking for a place where is quite safety ( in these years nobody
can be safe) , not party place and good life quality. Thanks all. Ciao

Ok, check out the North Shore towns,I live in Cabrera where peopledon't lock their doors at night, it's a small Spanish town of about 30,000 people and it is a way from all the Tourist traps. it is nice, safe and quiet. Hope this helps so go on line to YouTube and check out Cabrera and areas around it. Take care and God Bless.

There are many places to settle depending what else you like in life.

Tell us more, do you have kids and need school? Shopping needs? Social life needs?

What kind of lifestyle do you prefer? Are you beach people, off the beaten trail, city folk ?

You might consider Luperon, west of Puerto Plata on the North Coast. We have a varied and interesting expat community of about 200, various nationalities and many are or were sailboat cruisers. Nearby La Isabela/El Castillo, where Columbus first settled, also has an interesting, mostly European, expat community. Both communities are quite safe and laid-back.

My recommendation is Sosua after looking round the island for a place to live seven years ago. There are many Italians living here including my colleague at Coldwell Banker who is Italian. My wife also speaks Italian having lived there for five years. There are many Italian resttaurants so you will soon make lots of friends
I am happy to discuss security when you come over.

Thanks everybody for your answer! What we are looking for is the total opposite of now . After 12 years in Bangkok we desire good quality air , much much less concrete , nature , good enviroment and the chance to ride a bicycle without the fear that a exhaust black smoke cover you ... no kids , no shopping addict.... ??

Go to Luperon. Not touristy. Great expat community.

Fresh air you can guarantee on the North coast as there is a constant Easterly breeze plus mountains, rolling hills of tropical plants and trees, My wife and I visited Bangkok when we travelled looking for somewhere warm to retire to and couldn't believe the amount of smoke and noise and felt for the policemen who had to stand at junctions taking it all in. The Caribbean is the place and the DR has the lowest cost of living and property prices in the Caribbean especially on this coast because of the large number of expats living here..

Las Terrenas has a very large Italian population. Las Galeras has quite a few Italians also, but it's it's a lot smaller.
